Our mission in the Song Spirals Summer Songwriters Virtual Retreat is to empower artists like you to:
I. Advance your songwriting craft: Whether you’re a seasoned songwriter or just starting your musical journey, this course will equip you with the tools and techniques to refine your craft. Through a series of dynamic writing exercises, we’ll unlock your creativity and help you develop a unique songwriting style that reflects your inner voice.
II. Improve your ability to tell stories through narration and song: A great song is a story waiting to be told. We’ll delve into the art of storytelling, exploring how to weave narratives into your songs, captivating your audience with every word and melody. We’ll guide you in discovering and honing your unique sound, both on your chosen instrument and through your vocals. Throughout the course, we’ll journey together, drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of musical history. We’ll explore story songs in the classic archives and dive deep into the modern world of popular music to study contemporary masterpieces. But we won’t stop there; we’ll also delve into the realms of filmmaking and theatrical art, taking cues from visionaries like Joseph Campbell and Marc Harmon. By expanding our horizons, we’ll find new avenues for musical exploration.

Each class will consist of 60 to 90 minutes of immersive instruction time, where we’ll explore concepts, share insights, and ignite your artistic flame. After ‘class’, we’ll be meeting in the vibrant ‘Song Spiral Cafe’. This virtual gathering space will serve as a hub for students to share their experiences, exchange ideas, and showcase their newly crafted songs. The power of community is immense, and together we’ll uplift and inspire one another.
As a student, you’ll be encouraged to write between classes, nurturing your creative momentum. You’ll also have access to our lively Class Group chat on Wats App, where you can connect with fellow artists, receive feedback, and offer support. Need some personal guidance? Fear not! Instructor Stephen Day will be available for one-on-one consultations throughout the course (within a reasonable time frame), ensuring you have the individual attention you need to thrive.
